Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you from originally?

I am from the Washington, DC area, born and raised. Most of my extended family is from North Carolina, but the DC area will always remain home for me.

What got you into writing in the first place?

My high school English teachers. I write about them in my published memoir, The Prison in Glass. Both of them introduced me to various writing styles and eras that have inspired me to this day. To Ms. Jefferson and Ms. O'Marah, thank you both! I wouldn't be here without you.

What projects are you working on currently?

In total, I have written three books, including "The Prison in Glass". My second novel is my latest project. That story, a thriller set in modern day Baltimore, MD, is titled "Streetlight Genius" and features a high stakes plot surrounding cyber terrorism and economic vulnerability brought on by urban life. It is my hope to have that book traditionally published, so fingers crossed! If not, I plan on bringing that book to market within the next twelve months. Lastly, my very first book, a historical fiction novel titled "Sixty Eight" remains under lock and key. Former president Lyndon B. Johnson narrates that story as the protagonist on a quest to redeem himself in America's most tumultuous year, 1968...to be continued.

Do you write full time or part time?

I currently work as an AP US History teacher at Oxon Hill High School. I would absolutely love the chance to write full time (what writer wouldn't?!). Teaching has allowed me to work full time while continuing to pursue my literary goals and dreams. I highly recommend teaching as a career for any aspiring author, especially in the next generations to come.

What are your goals as a writer?

Redemption, both for my characters and for myself personally. I, like a lot of us, have made a lot of mistakes. Literature, to me, is a chance to participate in a freedom of thought that I denied myself for many years in the past. My stories, no matter the genre, will feature redemptive themes that reshape and mold my characters into better people with more holistic views on the world around them, even if at the cost of their own freedom or innate desires. More specifically, I hope to truly establish myself as a brand in the literary world, a bold ambition, I know, but a challenge that I believe I am equipped for. Obviously, that is not possible without an audience. I must earn one, and I truly appreciate anyone who decides to support my work. It means the world to me!
